Is sleeping too long bad for you?

This probably a stupid question, but.. I’m sick, and I went to bed at like 1:00 AM the previous night, when I WASN’T sick. But then, I woke up at like 5:00 AM and I was shaking so violently it was hard to move, and I felt cold even though I was really hot. My Mom (don’t laugh, I’m 15) comforted me and calmed me down, and I went to bed and slept probably, two hours? Anyways, I got up, and stayed up until like 2:00 in the afternoon, and then I slept until around 9:00 PM at night. I don’t feel all that great, and I want to know if it’s dangerous to sleep too long? I also thought I had a popcorn hull stuck in my throat, but I think it was just mucus. I couldn’t laugh or cough without choking, and now it’s doing it again. :( Also, where I live, like alot of the U.S., it’s covered in ice, which I don’t know if that’s important right now but it surely doesn’t help! >:( EDIT: Is it also a bad idea to take a hot shower now?

i dont think that sleeping more then you should is a bad thing but its not a good thing either you want to make sure you are on a schedule so you can get some actitve going on and excerise in. i mean if youre hitting the sack most of your day into te night you may have sleeping problems and your body may be slowly shutting down

Answer #2

No no, I don’t do this commonly. I commonly sleep for around 8-12 hours. I don’t go to bed until late, I never sleep like this.

Answer #3

I believe I read somewhere that sleeping more than the recommended 7-8 hours a night puts you at 3x the risk of a heart attack. As for what you experienced, I don’t think it was related.

Answer #4

Oh really? That’s pretty scary! :( I try to wake myself up sometimes, and it will work sometimes, others it won’t. I usually stay up a little bit after midnight, so.. o_o

Answer #5

To much of anything isn’t good for u, 7 to 8 hrs is wats recommened

Answer #6

I mean while I’m sick..

Answer #7

Youre body feels more tired which is why you sleep more and arent as proactive throughout the day. Nothing to be worried about, except the shaking that should be a concern and diccused with a doctor.

Answer #8

Haha no, but sleep is important. In fact, the sleep you get before midnight is three times as important as the sleep you get after midnight. And in order to properly sleep, eight to ten hours are needed for a full night of sleep.

Answer #9

It is at some point, because sleeping more than ussual can make you more tired than you really are. It can just turn you lazy, making you want to sleep more and more, and soon enough it can have a bad interaction with your life. Sleep is good, but oversleeping is not.
