Should my nine year old sister read the Twilight sereies?

My little sister is currently reading Twilight. I’ve read all four of the books and I’m worried that the themes in some of the later books, particularily Breaking Dawn, are too adult for her, as she’s only nine. It seems really unfair to stoip her from reading the other books, because she’s really into Twilight. I’ve spoken to our mum about this, and she’s going to let her read them (she doesn’t believe in censorship) but she hasn’t read the series, and doesn’t want to so she mightn’t be getting the whole picture. Should I let my sister read them?

I think its ok. its probably better for her to underststand it while she is younger since she’ll be hitting that time in her life by 11 or 12 anyway when she starts thninkg about sex so why not just let her find out now?

Answer #2

As a mother who HAS read all 4 of the books, I think Twilight and New Moon may be ok —but as for Eclipse and especially Breaking Dawn, I feel neither of those 2 would be appropriate for an 11 year old. I truthfully didn’t feel my 13 year old should have been reading Breaking Dawn. Breaking Dawn was a little to graphic for that kindo work aimed at such a young demographic. The sexual innuendos from Emmett, the overall sexual theme of the entire book once Bella is changed and they move into their little cottage. Books 1 and 2—excellent I would say, but no further until she is 12 or 13, maybe eve 14 for book 4.

I am not sure that even the first two books are suitable to children under 14ish. There is a Romeo and Juliet theme to the book that a young girl who does not understand love and the lessons learned by failed relationships may take too seriously. Do we really want out young girls hearing and reading things like I DON’T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU, I WANT TO DIE IF YOU DIE, or what about when Edward goes to Italy trying to get himself killed because he thinks Bella is dead. I think we are setting our young girls up showing them these things before they reached a sense of self.

Answer #5

well my parents felt uncomfortable.. but I loved them to much and I had to read on.. just like everybody else! and my sisters were reading it at the same time..

Answer #6

Yes it is her choice on the books she reads not yours the twilight books are a little mature but no by much. If your sister has not already heard of sex then maybe not but I am pretty sure she knows more than you think.
