Can having less than the recommended sleep affect your emotions?

I have been sleeping less and less and I feel like my emotions are everywhere. I feel like crying at the slightest thing but I can also be super hyper at times. I am basically living on energy drinks to keep me awake at times but I just wondered if it affected your emotions?

Definitely. Changing your sleep schedule can affect your emotions greatly. When I start getting sleep deprived I have anxiety attacks, I get really emotional over the smallest things, I get grumpy, and other times I get really hyper too. I feel so crazy when I don’t get enough sleep!

I believe it can, plus energy drinks aren’t exactly the best thing to ‘wake’ you up. Studies have shown people who don’t regularly get the ‘recommended’ hours are more stressed, angry, sad, and mentally exhausted. I remember when I wasn’t sleeping well at all and I did have a few family problems going on I was constantly snapping at people, being moody and just generally felt down. You should try getting about 8 hours sleep and see how you are then.
