Is it bad for my pit bull to breathe really rapidly while she's sleeping?

Answer #1

By the fact that you’re asking, obviously this isn’t her normal behavior. Heavy breathing is a sign of difficulty breathing. Your best bet is to see a vet.

Answer #2

no she’s always done it, i just never really payed attention to it by now. i’d think its normal cause bulldogs normally have breathing problems & shes almost just like a bulldog just bigger so maybe thats it, i dunno. e.o

Answer #3

If she’s always done it, then I wouldn’t consider it a problem. It could also be due to her size as you said.

Answer #4

He could be hot, dreaming, tired out or have a problem with his breathing..(: Plus dogs breath faster then we do anyway… How fast is it? :DD It could just be the normal breathing speed for him! :DD It is probably nothing to worry about…(:

Answer #5

Sorry.. I just noticed the “she” lol. :DD

Answer #6

hah tis all good. (x no i know its fast cause my other dog breathes normally when he sleeps, his breathing actually goes A LOT slower when he sleeps & when she sleeps its really really fast & it worries me. i think it’s normal though. :p

Answer #7

Now is it the whole time he sleeps?? or just certain parts when he’s asleep? Cause my boxer will breath really heavy for a few minutes and that means that they are having a bad dream.

Answer #8

no the whole time shes sleeping.

Answer #9

How old is the dog and how long has this been going on? If your dog is over 6 years old and the heavy breathing progresses to restlessness at all times it could be signs of heart failure. I dunno if PitBulls are genetically flawed like Boxers are with their hearts but both of my Boxers died of heart failure at 7 and 8 years. The symptoms started with heavy breathing while sleeping.

Answer #10

shes not even 2 years. :/..

Answer #11

this can b the cause of a variety of things from asthma to just a bad/good dream but it would definitely a good idea to to your dog to vet
