What picture should I paint for an art contest?

I am entering an art contest in april and it has to be an original work and not referenced from someone elses photo so i took these to photos. Im not sure which one i want to do. The first one would be a test of my skill trying to get the reflection to look right but the second one i wanted to make it more meaningful and draw the girl wearing a large sweater in the arms that can be see are almost as thin as bone to show how anorexia can effect lives and bring awareness to people. What are your opinions? http://www.funadvice.com/photos/dabbling_photography_improve

Answer #1

I think I like the second one most, because its shows more emotion. But they are both really cool.

Answer #2

I love them both, but i think i prefer the second one :)

Answer #3

well it’s hard to give an opinion on that…being an artist myself i have to draw what i feel. Just draw what you feel to draw and everything should be fine. remember creativity comes from within….it’s something noone can really help you with…your ideas are very interesting though :)

Answer #4

i really like the second one though

Answer #5

alright thanks, which idea do you think would have a better chance at winning a contest?

Answer #6

i would probably say the second one…seems like you’ve put more thought into that one…plus it’s got a great message behind it i think

Answer #7

It’s a toss up! I can’t decide either. Both were very thought out & very well composed…

Answer #8

I think that you should use the second photo.

When it comes to improvements, I think the first photo could be improved by having a more intricate background. I also think that it could be improved by having a more clean surface for you to rest on. The scratches and dirt on the metal interfere with your reflection to a great extent, which is a shame. When you’re taking photos, also try to aim for a wider range of colors and shades. While your photos aren’t bad, I do think that parts behind you in the photo perhaps look slightly overexposed.

Answer #9

well it was mostly for me to reference for a painting so i dindt really care about what the backgrounds looked like in the photo because i was going to add whatever i wanted when i painted it

Answer #10

The second one is great.
