My goldfish is getting black spots

My fish keeps getting more and more black spots on him. It started on the top fins now its spreading throughout his body too! What can be done to treat it or what is the cause of it?

We have two goldfish, a albino frog, two snails, a molly, and two ghost shrimp in the 10 gallon tank…they were in a smaller tank but we switched it up to a 10 gallon and he is gettin more spots.

What can we do for this fish…and can he die from this???

Hi,

Is it spots or patches?

If it’s spots, it sounds like Black Ich. It is treated with medication they sell at pet stores. These are parasites. Ich meds are the only way to treat black ich. Do not use or add salt and do not raise the temperatures.

You may need to treat the tank for 10-21 days. Treat until all symptoms (Spots ) are gone

Patches of black on the body and fins could indicate ammonia or ph burn. The black is actually a sign of it healing from trauma, either ammonia, nitrite, ph, nipping by other fish or meds. If you just got these fish the dealer may have had them medicated. Or the oringinal tank ph was different from your ph. Or if your tank has just completed cycling it may be healing from that.

Since you just changed the tank, it seems like it could be ammonia or ph burn.

remove your fish from the tank, put him in a small bowl with little water, put a little salt and powdered pepper. let him stay there for a few minutes then transfer him in a cooking pot. add a little greens and a teaspoonfull of soy sauce and boil for a few minutes. SERVE HOT!

It could be just normal spots, but you could always ask your vet to see if this is normal and go to a pet store to see if this is normal, too because they have medicine there to help pets.:)
