mini fridge problem

My friend has a mini frigde that froze over and he was useing an ice pick to get the ice out and put a hole in something in the freezer part. He said that air is coming out and wants to know if it will still work?

If “air” is coming out, it probably isn’t air but is something like freon gas. In that case his freezer won’t work because the cooling agency has become inoperative.
