massachusets air gun hunting

hello, I am almost 15 and am applying for my sporting license in Massachusetts and was wondering if hunting with a high powered air gun was leagle? I wooed be using is for small game that a .22LR would be hunted with (rabbit, gray squirl, rat, crows).

thanks for any advice.

Answer #1

In most states, air rifles are classified as rifles for hunting purposes, so all the normal rifle hunting game laws apply.

Answer #2

thanks for the help I will probably check when I pick up my license.

and I only hunt and keep fish that I, my family or my dogs will eat or what is needed to be taken to help controll a healthy population or that species like this year we had to dispose of 2 striped bass that were deformed and diseased and not fit for eating or really good for the rest of the population of bass.

Answer #3

so in a non rifle zone I could not use an air gun, if they are classified as a rifle. but what about a shotgun zone?

Answer #4

You could check for your area by calling DNR (Department of Natural Resources)…Take care and be careful out there !!

Answer #5

yes- they are hunting tools. I have had great success with my .177 on all kinds of small game up to and including a raccoon. in my opinion an air rifle is the perfect small game hunting weapon. they should be legal in your state.
