Letter of application for Work Experience

What is a good opening line for a letter of application for work experience? And do I need to send in anything else with the letter (e.g. resume, references)? Thanks!

Here’s a really good website you can check out. It’ll give you some examples of how to write a covering letter.

http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/Applications__CVs_and_interviews/p!eefmd

Also include you cv(resume and references) attach them to the letter. Always remember that you want to keep your application letter as short as you can I.e. you don’t want to include a lot of unneccesary information as the person will probably not have time to read it all.

Yes, you can attach resume with your application, imho

intense - I am still at university so I’m just applying for work experience for a week. I’ve got a light study load atm so thought doing some work experience would be useful to put on my resume when I’m actually looking for a job.

Thanks everyone :)

I think the cover letter should be perfect. The cover letter should summarize the entire profile and should convince the recruiter of how you would be suitable for the desired job

You must always send a resume with a cover letter. And yes it must have references on it. And make sure they are aware they may be called for a reference so they can be prepared. I’ve taken bits out of my standard letter you can use.

Start with something like: “I wish to apply for the position of (example: Personal Assistant) as advertised on (insert name of website etc here if the job was advertised. If not, leave this bit out.).

For your consideration I have enclosed a copy of my résumé. I believe that my résumé will demonstrate that I have the complete range of skills and experience to be able to achieve in the advertised position…”

You can then briefly outline your past experience and relevant qualifications that relate to the job you are applying for. Also very briefly mention any hobbies interest or volunteer work that will make you look better - but only if it relates to the job.

Then you can end with something like this:

“I am sure that my referees will attest to my good nature and my personal qualities as well as my skills and experience. This is why I am applying for this position.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. I am available for interview any time at your convenience.”

I’ve just noticed you say ‘work experience’ - is this for a first job?
