Most likely, you don’t have the correct driver for the modem installed. Every computer has to have drivers installed for every component really. A chipset driver, modem driver, audio and video drivers, etc. The component won’t work without the driver.
So, to find the right driver for your modem, call tech support if you have paid for it, or go to your computer’s manufacturers website (ex: dell.com) and click on wherever it says something like “download drivers.” You should be able to look up the correct drivers by your system.
