How to convince my Mom for a rat?

My hamster just died recently and I have discovered that rats are much petter companions because they don’t bet or they bite less, the love to lick you and perch on your shoulder. They are more affectionate and behave better. I have enough money for a cage and I want 2 rats for the cage (2 males). The only thing my mom can say is “Eww there gross I don’t want 1 in why house.” She is dead on the answer no just because they have a long tail that many people find unappealing. What can I do, besides ask for 1 for Christmas/birthday and stuff that doesn’t work. I need serious advice/help! I want to act like an adult and be able to get 1. I already clean my room so don’t bother with chores. This is a tough situation. I need help A.S.A.P

There are tailless rats out there (bred that way - not cut), but they are hard to find and can develop problems with their spines and hindquarters.

I’d recommend doing research on rats and presenting it to your mother. Also, pictures, paintings and drawings of young rats may help change her opinion since the tails are smaller and less disturbing to a lot of people.

Check out information on Agility Rats and how they can be trained. Sometimes people are more favorable toward animals that can be trained. Rats can be litter box trained, easily taught to come when called and ride on shoulders, to walk across a tight rope, play on a see-saw and a wide array of other things.

Good luck getting a rat. I train and raise them and wouldn’t trade mine for the world.

Try and compromise with her… I know that may be difficult and you say that you tidy your room and stuff =/ If you havn’t already, tell her why you want a pet rat - like they are more affectionate. Make sure you tell her that you’ll look after it and she doesn’t have to go near it. If you’ve done all this then there isn’t much else you can do other than plead more with her.

Good luck =]

my mum hates my rat… but I think shes getting better with him because when I sit on the couch next to her. he runs along the top of the couch and plays in her hair she smiles and she doesnt say “get him off me” til he starts to lick her.

but then again.. I didnt ask… I just wasnt thinking about how they wouldnt let my older sis get a rat. and came home with it… and she said she didnt want to see it…

just talk her into it…

if being adult about it dont work. cling to her leg and go “pleeease mum im begging uuu” in the high to low voice thats really funny. she’ll get a laugh out of it and shake you off.

then say ull hold your breath til she says she will. then breathe after like 5 seconds and she’ll laugh again, then shell say no

then tickle her and say you wont stop til she says yes. and then she’ll almost pee herself and ull stop. and she’ll say no.

then just keep acting funny and like a little kid. and if it still dont work… oh well… you tried…

this usually works on my mum.. because… well… she puts up with my dad… and I learn from the master!
