I need parents advice...or someone who had the same trouble...

my father is kind, and a true genteman…

but my trouble with him is…he is tooo ‘saving money’…I know its there’s problem with economy…but what do you think about, RM2 @ $1 for 2 week???!!! I now he meant right…but…its just not right…our family doesnt do the ‘allowance for a month’…our fmily way is…you ask then you get…but my father give me RM2 @ $1 when I asked him…but then the next week, he’s exhort me because I dont care about the world crisis…And you know, my school start 7am-3.30pm …im embarresed(almost) of my friends had to spend a little money for me…

he’s not always this way, but this was the worst, his rule is I cannot spend more than RM5 for a week…ergggh…

I love my father…he never angry at his children, and always pray, but this is just tooo much…In parents point of view, is this ok???

Demima, ‘RM’ is the monetary denomination for Malaysia. It stands for ‘Ringgit Malaysia’.

‘Ringgit’ translates to ‘Dollar(s).’ So RM5 would be 5 Malaysian Ringgit. RM5 converts to roughly US$1.35.

down2earth, yes, your dad may be a tiny bit extreme when it comes to giving out pocket money, BUT, at the same time you don’t really need the money at your age. When I was back home staying with my parents, I barely spent any money at all, if ever. All my needs were taken care of. I didn’t have to buy food because my mom would cook for us, and I didn’t have to pay rent because I lived with my parents.

I suppose the severity of the situation would highly depend on how well off financially your family is. If you are from a rich family, then I can understand how the amount you get would be ridiculous.

Anyway, if you are really unhappy with the amount you get, you can just have a friendly chat with your dad about it. :)

He is the parent - in the position of authority - looking after your best interests - decision should be respected - maybe you could do chores to earn more if needed - you’ll be in his position before you know it !
