How to teach a five year-old to read music, without boring him?

No, my expectations are not unreasonable. This child absorbs anything I throw at him and I personally don’t believe music to be rocket science. Of course, I need to know how to go about teaching him without making it extremely boring.

If he can memorize every infomercial he sees, I’m sure he can learn this.

Answer #1

color code the notes. for example, for G note, use Green. Always use the letter of the note for the first letter of the note. For example:

Green, for G note

children love color, and it can help them to learn more efficiently. also, the color makes it more inviting than a sheet of black and white squibbles.

He can associate the colors with the notes. so for example, if you say, play a Green note, that means, play a G note. once he is a little older, he can grow out of the color exercise. Which shouldn’t be too difficult because each of the notes are the first letter of the colors.

Sorry if that didnt make sense, but I do know what im talking about.

hope I’m of a help. -x-
