How do I feed my dog a carrot?

my dog hates carrots. I try not to force him but the vet says the protein he needs is from carrots. I sound like an idiot but seriously.

Answer #1

I hate to say it, but I think your vet is the idiot here…carrots are not a high-protein food. Try boiling some chicken, and mixing it with a small amount of brown rice and the cooked, chopped up carrot if you are intent on feeding it to him.

Answer #2

Try grating a small amout of carrot and mixing it in his food…or try dropping them in boiling water for only the length of time it takes to slightly soften them, chop and add to his food…

Since there is zero protein in carrots, but LOTS of other good things in carrots…what exactly is it your dog needs? Some type of Vitamin? Find out, there may be a substitue that your dog might like from another vegitable.

Answer #3

Can you try other alternatives like sweet potatoes or squash? My dogs love them cooked and softened in their food. Maybe steam the carrots and start with a small amount mixed in his food, and gradually increase the amount.

Answer #4

Grating the carrot is a good way to add it. And carrots do contain protein…a carrot provides almost 2% of the daily requirement of protein. The amino acids are present as a plant-based source of protein not the traditional animal source of protein.

Answer #5

mix the carrots in with the dogs food. My chow shepherd eats carrots after I did put in with his food then I tried feeding him from hand with the smell lingering on my hands:P

Hope this helps:)
