The potty spot Your goal is to teach your puppy the right place to eliminate. The first thing you must do is choose one spot that will be his permanent bathroom: the “potty” spot. When you take your puppy out to potty, always use the same door and go to the same potty spot. Watch your puppy carefully in the potty spot. Plan on waiting for him. Let him sniff around. When he begins going, quietly say your potty cue—a word that will tell your dog that this is the place and time to go. (Be careful in choosing your “potty” word. You will want to use this word in public. This cue will come in very handy when you’re away from home.) Click and treat just as your puppy is finishing his business. You want to click while the behavior is still happening, but not so early in the process that your puppy stops eliminating prematurely in order to get to his treat. With a bit of practice you’ll quickly learn to time your click and treat so that your puppy associates his reward with eliminating in the right place—yet isn’t interrupted before completion. Soon your puppy will know that: potty in house = no reward; potty in potty spot = really great rewards!

heeyaa, well when I first got my puppy we kept putting her outside about every half hour so when she went out she would smell around and wee and poo while she was out then we would bring her back in then after a while she would stand at the door when she needed to wee or poo (its quite cute its like her way of asking to go to the toilet)hahaxx

hope I helped have fun with your new pup!!

routine. Like they said above. It has to be routine. Every single day, offer the pup the place you need them to poop, or at least give them the option by WALKING them. Here is what I do, and I just went through potty training a Cockapoo. walk them in the morning… IF they poop, great. Feed them just a handful of kibble for the day. Get home… feed them more… then walk them. right away… works every time. If you crate train them, you will get success faster since they will not poop or pee where they lay.

I have a puppy which io am training. every 20 mins- half an hour I walk her to the back door and say the word garden and put her out, I stand with her till she does her business and praise her when she does go!! it will take time and get abit repetative but if you really stick to it you will crack it!!! plus at night I take her water away 2 hours before I put her to bed so she doesnt have to go a lot at night. I put news paper by the back door so if I cant let her out she pee’s on the paper! when my pup does go to wee on the carpet I make a AKK sound and pick her strait up.. no eye contact or talking just strait outside!

puppys go the loo, after play time, when excited, after meals and first thing in the morning! those are the times to be alert! :)

The number one ingredient to have a house trained dog is…VIGILANCE. You must make housetraining your ‘mission in life’ for anywhere from 10 days to two weeks. Keep slip-on’s by the back door, and a bathrobe or something quick to get into handy…because for this two weeks…housetraining will be your mission.

Your goal is…to beat the puppy to the punch…You’ll learn his signals just by doing all that vigilance…like they’ll start sniffing, and circling…you pick him up and take him out BEFORE he goes…Rules of thumb are also…For puppies, take him out immediately when he wakes up (do not let him follow you to the door…pick him up and carry out the door)…take out immediately after eating. During play a little puppy should be taken out every 20 minutes or so (aren’t you glad they sleep so much?? )

Crate the pup when EVER you cannot watch it (when you leave, or are ultra busy)…instinct is for them to not dirty their nest…so make sure the crate is only big enough to stand up, turn around, etc…A new puppy will need to get out once during the night…but that only lasts a week or so…You don’t want the puppy having to go so bad he dirties his nest…you do NOT want to break that instinctive barrier…once that’s happened it’s hard to undo.

When you get the pup outside…say ‘pee pee’ or whatever…then love them up BIG when they go…this will get them to go on command, and save you from having hang out and wait in the future. A pup can learn this by 3 months old.

p

If the puppy does pee or poop in the house…roll up a newspaper, and hit YOURSELF in the head, repeating the words…”I didn’t watch my puppy”…
