How can I hide my self-harm scars during spring break?

In a few weeks im going to visit my brother in Pensacola, and we are planning on going to the beach. I have scars at the top of my thighs, and i want to wear an actual bathingsuit. Not like the swim shorts? Will tanning just make them more dark? What should i do?

Answer #1

tanning can sometimes make them more noticeable, depending on how bad the scars are as your regular skin tans, the scars will stay white (at least that is how it is for me… but they might be different types of scars)

Answer #2

Cover up. If you cant get it directly on the scars use a q-tip.

When I got stitches on my forehead last summer, my doctor told me that sun exposure would actually make the healing of the scar worse, and that I should make sure to wear plenty of sun screen; so I don’t think tanning is necessarily the best way to go. If you want to cover or mask the scars, spray on tanning may be a better option. The mystic tans (http://funadvice.com/r/15p964nj71k) use colored dye to coat your skin and helps to hide any scars or imperfections.

There are also quite a few effective remedies for scarring. I have tried Mederma, and it works really well. It might take a few months, but at least it is dermatologically tested and there is little risk that it will irritate your scars more. It’s worth a try, good luck.

Answer #4

Cover up is the only thing that I can come up, or spray on tan could work too.

Answer #6

Maybe your brother needs to see the scars to stop you from doing it… this sounds like a cry for either attention or help. Either way, sounds like you need to tell someone.
