Do you think it is true that guys get their self-esteem from their mothers and girls from their fathers?

Answer #1

Where did you hear that or what theory are you speaking of. I don’t think that is true. I think that you get self esteem from both parents i.e. you need praise from both to help build your self esteem.

Answer #2

We actually learned this in our psychology class, so I was just wondering what imput other people had :)

Answer #3

Oh ok. It’s interesting. I don’t think so. I think that both parents have a role in self esteem. Aren’t you maybe speaking of one of the Freudian theories? Sounds like something he would say.

Answer #4

I don’t find that true, I have a high self-esteem( in other words I’m confident as who I am) but my dad was never really around to raise me and we don’t get along, I don’t really think that self-esteem has much to do with your parents.

Answer #5

Okay thanks :)

Answer #6

I can see where’d you’d get it from in psychology class. It would make sense. Because of the Oedipus and Electra complexes, it would make perfect sense that the parent the kid is more clinging toward would be the one that they would seek praise from more. If they were to be rejected, they wouldn’t develop properly during the phallic stage. As for Rachel, because her father wasn’t there, her mother would have replaced his role during that stage of her lifetime.

Answer #7

no i dont although for me it is quite true but i think thats just a flook. ive always been close to my dad and he is very confident i picked it up because why other girls were playing dress up with there mums i was with my daddy at the beach sence my mum was pretty much a workaholic i think ur parents have a good part over how ur raised when it comes to confidence but in the end we are our selves and determine our behaviors
