English Bulldog?

I have a friend that is looking for a English Bulldog. Can anyone give me some tips on them or where to get the best of the breeds?

Answer #1

Honestly, and this comes from many years of experience with my own personal Bulldogs, and all dogs in general. Im a volunteer at my local Humane Society, and a Professional Pet Groomer of 9 years. All the Bullies we get in the shelter are in very poor condition health wise.

And the girl above my answer is 100% correct about them being good dogs. But they are GREAT DOGS!! Behavior wise, so tolerant of other dogs and children! I have a 3 year old son and he’s so rough with my female bullie and she could care less what he does to her. She’s a saint!!

But she’s also 100% correct with the health problems… and they start very early… and last for a life time. I spend about$400 for her bi-yearly Vet appointments. And I paid $3800 for her as a pup. She’s 8 years now and she requires a bath once a week to maintain the face rolls, tail rolls,(roll dermatitis) and ear disinfectant. HIGH MAINTENANCE DOGS!! If I wasn’t a groomer I wouldn’t be able to deal with the constant grooming and on-going medicating. If your interested in where to find a fine bred Bullie let me know. my email is sfloridahonie@yahoo.com I’m warning you though a well breed Bullie is costly and the cost of vet visits will be major costly and last the lifetime of the dog! Also you might want to look into French Bulldogs. They are super cute too and have WAY less health problems. Good luck and let me know if you need further advice.

Check with the English Bull Dog Clubs and go from there.

Answer #3

Well, where to get one? A shelter :) 25% of dogs in shelters are purebreds.

If your local shelter doesn’t have any, try petfinder.com. You can search for specific breeds who need rescue in your area, by zipcode.

Bullies are good dogs, but have a lot of health issues. Breathing problems, hip problems, easily become overweight, and have skin issues very regularly. They will often need eye drops due to dry or cherry eyes, and also have folds in their ears which require regular cleaning. They are very high maintenance and have a lot of potential health issues.
