We are programmed to seek sweet and rich foods.

Most people today do not get enough to eat (2/3s of humanity live in hunger, squalor, and hopelessness). Historically it has always been that way. We seek out sweet foods because fruits and vegetables are sweetest when they are ripe. we seek out fatty rich foods because they are the dencest source of calories.

We are in the 1/3 of humanity that can basically eat whatever and however much food we want. Our tastes are still programmed for scarcity. We have also learned to make even sweeter and richer foods than any found in nature. These hyper appealing foods can lead us to abandon any healthy foods.

I find that the only way I have to avoid unyhealthy foods is to make myself eat enough healthy foods that I’m always fairly satesfied. If you eat all the whole grains, vegetables, and fruits you want than that makes it a little easier to say no to pastries and potato chips. You do have to force yourself at first but over time you will develop more of a taste for healthy foods.

Good luck!
