How do I know if this is constipation or something worse?

I’ve been constipated for a month now, and it came on randomly. I’ve never had problems before, I drink lots, eat lots of fibre, fruit, and exercise. Suddenly it is extremely hard for me to pass bowel movements. When I do manage to- they are hard and very small, and I feel bloated all the time. I looked it up and I think maybe I have an bowel obsturction? But how do I know? I’m scared! I’m only 16. :( Does that happen to people this young?

Answer #1

We are not doctors & we cannot diagnose you, if you have really been having this problem for a month, go to the hospital.

Answer #2

It’s not that simple. My family can’t afford that at all.. I just want opinions of people who might know?

Answer #3

im sure the hospital will work something out with your parents to pay for it, this is your health, the thing that keeps you going, im sure your parents would rather spend some money then have you dead.

by how often it occurs, how long it lasts, and how painful it becomes over a period of time. If it just now started it’s probably just a change in your diet, but if it’s gone on over a period of a couple years; you should have it checked out.

It’s dangerous being constipated for that long. I struggle with chronic constipation and the first thing I did is go to the doctors. It can certainly happen to people this young. You do get doctors etc that have to help you for free in every country or are willing to. You need to get checked out to see if it is nothing serious. It could be and believe me, you would rather go through and embarrassing appointment than have a blockage or a part of your intestine taken out or something a whole lot worse.

If however you HAVE GOTTEN checked out and it isn’t life threatening, you might want to check this out.

If you had a bowel obstruction you’d be VERY sick after a month. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to the Dr., because I think you should…this is a “change in bowel movements”….and anytime there is a change it should be checked out.

I would try to have more liquids in you diet…

  1. try some vegetable soup as a must have for a month like for lunch…
  2. try having a salad with your meal like with dinner…
  3. try some fruits like gr@pes & plums and try having a glass of water after(just to get your body to react to that will help loosen your digestive tract! (my family makes this cooked fruit salad for the summertime & it really helps the digestive tract because my mother suffers from constipation & has for years…nothing has helped but what I have told her!

what you need is a really big pot…

  1. wash about 10 plums and dump them in the pot(whole)(if you dont have any in season you can also use dry prunes)

  2. wash & cut up 5 granny smith apples into pieces( not too big not too small)

  3. wash about 2 big bunches of the green seedless gr@pes(just pull them off the stems & dump them in the pot as well)(if you dont have them in season you can use golden seedless raisins just as well!)

  4. wash 15-20 fresh apricots& take the pits out (dried apricots will do just fine as well)

  5. white sugar/brown sugar/sweet & low for diabetic or what ever you use like splenda according to taste.

  6. add 2-3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice

  7. 1 pack of strawberry flavored jello mix (if you dont have any then you can use about 3-4 tablespoons of strawberry jam/jelly/preservatives)

  8. fill the pot 3/4 way of water to cover the fruit and cook over a stove until cooked through. Allow to cool down & put in the frig for a good 5-8 hours then serve cold in a cup/bowl/fruit salad cup like this one —>http://funadvice.com/r/3kbntunagn

  9. OPTIONAL ONLY IF YOU LIKE IT: cut up about 10 figs into 4’s (meaning once in half then the halves into halves…it’s really good for the stomach!)

TIPS:

  1. make sure you add the hard fruits first so it will cook evenly or you will have 1 big mush of cooked fruits!
  2. If using dried fruits then add them last!

If this remedy doesnt work I dont know what will…other then cleansing vitamins(I really dont recommend this though, it messes up the digestive tract by you getting dependent on them!)

hope this helped…good too have once a week as a natural cleanse for those that dont have a problem as well…it’s healthy, tasty, natural & will cool ya off on a hot summer day! :P
