Catholic church exhibition about the inquisition, why?

Everybody who’s studied history knows: it’s wrong to kill people over religion. Now, the Catholic Church has an exhibition to try to shed some light on this period in their history to also illustrate how people “misunderstand” what happened. Fact: 1.8% of the people they put to the question were killed. Wow.

And this is the “good news” from their official documentation…tell me: isn’t it a corrupt organization that claims, even 500 years later, to be doing “good” when they killed so many people for believing other than they do?

thedude boy! You hit the nail on the head! Good, no GREAT question!

Any group, especially a Christian group such as the RCC, should always stick by the truth an only the truth. Never ever claim falsehoods, or make up blatent lies such as the RCC does. They have done this down thru history. At least 60 to 80 MILLION lives, each one being a real person, were tortured, thrown to the lions, burned at the stake, nailed to a cross…all done by the RCC. I don’t trust a word they say. Never will

Answer #3

well they’ve been under a lot of scrutiny recently (with the priest scandals…) and so they’re trying to make it better… they’ve always tried to justify their past, and this isnt exactly new… for some odd reason they form a story and stick to it no matter what (remember the whole world being flat deal…) I dont know why they try to justify things, but I guess they believe its good for their survival…

Answer #4

hahah that’s why I don’t like to follow religions they’re full of conspiracy!!! and lies that “should” be followed so we can go to “heaven” and for “god” to love me

PEOPLE DON’T TRY TO ARGUE WITH ME, THIS IS MY OPINION, AND USUALLY NOBODY WINS TRYING TO FIGHT AGAINST OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS, SO JUST CALL ME DIRTY NAMES AND THAT’S IT…:) THANK YOU

Answer #5

horrormusic not all religions are the same. Some actually have the truth.

Yes flossheal, the RCC actually did murder, and torture millions of people to death even if they are trying to cover it up, they will never be able to. Too many people know the truth. They did it

Answer #6

Did the Roman Catholic Church actually crucify people, orion? Seems a bit ironic…

Otherwise, thedude, I did realise that historically the ‘Inquisition’ was an anti-heretical body which lasted hundereds of years, not always in the form for which we traditionally remember it (I.e. torturing and killing people). So I presume that explains the figure of people who died - at some points in its history the Inquisition wasn’t killing people at all, just questioning and brow-beating them.

But I believe it was always a very sinister organisation and I agree with you that an exhibition to show its ‘good side’ is going too far. I’d like to hear Arthur101’s take on this…
