Blasphemy and the Holy Spirit ???

How do you interpret what scripture has to say about blaspheming the Holy Spirit - (the unpardonable sin) and vexing the Holy Spirit of God ? Is it easy to do without conscious choice or forethought? I’m hoping to hear from those who believe there is such a thing who can share from their experiences and study.

Answer #2

Just read the text. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the act of attributing the miracles of Jesus to demonic forces. It can not accidentally be done, since you must first believe that Jesus existed and performed miracles, you must believe in demons, and then you must consciously accuse Jesus of using demonic powers to do such things.

Wow…It’s very mind opening your words…I didn’t know it was possible to perform a miracle while sinning against God’s Spirit. I wouldn’t dare…that’s just outrages.

Those who claim to be led by the Holy Spirit yet practice lawlessness and live in iniquity are blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Those who perform lying signs and wonders while professing to be led by the Holy Spirit blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Those who prophesy falsely blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

The word ‘blasphemy’ (according to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) means:

  1. slander, detraction, speech injurious, to another’s good name
  2. impious and reproachful speech injurious to divine majesty

While prophesying in His name, and casting out devils in his name, and doing many wonderful works in His name, they have slandered and lived a lifestyle that is injurious to His Good Name. They have blasphemed the Good Name of the Holy Spirit by doing these works while, at the same time, they worked iniquity.

The Greek word used here for the term ‘iniquity’ is anomia and means:

  1. the condition of without law a) because ignorant of it b) because of violating it
  2. contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness

Rejecting Gods Law and teaching others to do so while professing to be led by the Holy Spirit is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit would NEVER lead you into lawlessness and iniquity. There are those who claim otherwise and their speech is speech injurious to divine majesty.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It pains me greatly when I see that word ‘many’ in regard to those who consider themselves Christians being turned away by our Lord.

Answer #5

its not something that should require a lot of thought. your interpretation of the bible should just come from what you believe is right. no its not easy to look inside your heart.. ecpecially if its been beaten and scarred like mine has, but if you can you can understand what he meant for us to understand.
