okay. my boyfriend is black. my mom and her entire family are racist. the irony in this, my great great grandfather on my mom’s side is black. SELF HATERS! anyway, my mom is freaking out because i’m dating a black man. she says it makes her sick. she and the rest of her family agree that i can never bring him home to meet her side of the family. if i marry and have kids with my bf, they will never know a large part of the family. trust me… i’ve tried to explain the the whole colorblind love thing. it did not work. what should i do? it hurts to know that my mother is willing to disown her own daughter because the man she loves is not white. and another thing… my dad is japanese. she had two kids with him. so technically, i’m multiracial, not just biracial. deep down, does my mom have unsaid feelings on that? racism is ignorance in definition, and ignorant poeple need to shut their traps.

Good Luck Girl!!! My parents were racist and I dated my bf for 2 years before I basically said f#$@ it and got an apartment and we moved in together. Now 8 yrs later we have a beautiful 2 yr old and we are happy. You never really stop dealing with the whole family drama. It gets better over time but it never REALLY disappears. Just more respect evolves. During the beginning I would try to bring him into the situation as a friend and introduce him like that. This way they can get to know him on a different level. If they are like my parents and don’t even want him in the house, then I would respect their wishes but make it KNOWN that u are not giving up ur friendship with him no matter what because he is a good person. So everytime you leave the house let them know u will be w/ him and doing things with a friend. Then in the future when situations are a little more at ease, DEMAND respect for ur relationship!!! Hope ur journey will be easier than mine!!!

this is 2007 im pretty sure people should get over this whole interracial relationship thing love whoever you want to you don’t need anyone to approve of that your parents are just shallow point out flaws in them or their families.

Answer #4

tell them thats racist, and that really offends you and your boyfriend. it really pisses me off to hear that, one of my best friends is afro-american. sorry, that sucks. just look them in the eye and say what you have to say. good luck

Maybe you should tell them that if they really love you they will trust you and that you are the dictator of who you are girlfriend of. Maybe also tell them that it shouldnt matter who you go out with, just that you are happy. Also remind them that you will love them evn if they dont love you because you are going out with someone black, this could maybe make them guilty.
