Why is it awkward when I go to the doctor's?

When i go to the doctors and they have to check my down there area, it creeps me out and i feel super uncomftorable. likee what do i do!?

Answer #1

Just don’t think about it.

Answer #2

I think it’s safe to say that most people aren’t too comfortable in such situations. One thing that could help a little, however, is if you try thinking about it in a different way. Try thinking about your doctor as a person who is just there to help. Try to keep in mind that they’re not judging you or anything – they are professionals who have seen it all before.

If that doesn’t help very much, try to think about something unrelated when they’re doing what they need to do. Perhaps think about things you need to do later, or anything to distract yourself a little.

Answer #3

because a doctors down there haha its kinda obvious :)

Answer #4

It’s because you are modest. Modesty is a good thing in normal sitations, but when it comes to doctors, they are just doing their job.

Answer #5

last time i was checked down there was like hmm i was ten.. now 11.. now i completely refuse it. i just hate it, it bothers me and i make sure i dont get sick so they wont look down there.. so i try to stay as healthy as possible so i dont go.. cause it is very uncomfortable and its unpleasant. but i totally know where your coming from.

Answer #6

Why would a doctor look at a kids private parts? There is no need unless there is pain or an issue with that area. If you are a minor and go to the doctor for a fever or a sore throat and they ask you to take your pants off, is a big red flag!! Doctors would only check that area after accidents or pain and then gynecologist will also check after a woman becomes sexually active.

Answer #7

There are a number of reasons a doctor might choose to do a pelvic exam on girls who are not sexually active. It is not in patients best interest to be afraid or suspicious of their doctor. Current protocols are for parents or another health professional to be present in the room when doctors perform pelvic exams on young women so there is no question of their professionalism. Lots of things doctors do are uncomfortable and/or embarrassing but are important to find health problems.

Answer #8

well, i had a condition where she did have to check me, but only once.. and plus girls have to be checked to make sure they dont get cancer.. did you not know that?

Answer #9

heres what helps me: when i had a pap smear done, there were two interns, and a doctor, who was a male. i told them i wanted a female doctor, where im a female, to do my pap smear. they gave me a female doctor, adn teh two interns left the room so it was just her and i. i would ask to have a doctor of the same sex, maybe that will help you a little bit at least
