Is it wrong that the mini fridge my parents got me bothered me?

My parents bought me a mini-fridge for my birthday for my dorm room. When I got it back to my dorm from my home two and a half hours away the door was totally warped and it wont close, the inside of the door that has the little shelves is torn halfway out of the door. I called my parents and after sitting around and thinking about what to do for a week they decided they didnt want to return it or try to exchange it. They basically told me to try to duct tape it or something (impossible) or finish tearing out the inside of the door and hit it with a hammer back in place then duct tape the door back on. They said to basically manage and maybe they will buy me another one at some point (my dad said something about it lasting a year like that, so my next birthday maybe?). Is it wrong that I am a bit upset and peeved about this? For my birthday my parents got me a broken mini fridge that i get to tear apart and TAPE back together and/or just store in my room with no purpose. I cant take the vitamin D stuff they got me now because it needs to be refridgerated after opening. They originally said they would go get me another one, and now changed their minds. i know it isnt a money issue because they are out every weekend spending atleast a hundred dollars each weekend. Is it wrong that I am a bit upset/ hurt/ wtf?

Answer #1

No it’s not wrong that you are upset. I would be upset to. I would try to find a part time job, buy myself a new mini fridge. For the “year thing” they were probably talking about the warranty/contract or something. Either way it goes, I’d buy a new mini fridge, so I can refrigerate my medication so I don’t have to run home just to take it.

When….. I…….. got it back to my dorm from my home two and a half hours away the door was totally warped and it wont close.

Then why do you say “For my birthday my parents got me a broken mini fridge that i get to” ….fix coz you broke it.Welcome to the real world.

Answer #3

My dad put it in the car, my dad drove, my dad put it in my dorm and then left before i opened it. I didnt touch the thing until I opened it the next day, i definitley did not break it

Answer #4

I would apologise….. but your first post reads different and the reply still stands strong .

Answer #5

All I said was that I got it back to my dorm, I never said I dropped it or anything. My dad didn’t drop it either. It looks like someone dropped it down a flight of stairs which nobody did, we are pretty certain it was returned and never checked at the store.

Answer #6

No, nothing wrong with how you feel. Hell, I’d feel the same way. You need to find out where they got it and see if you can’t return it to the store nearest you. Another thing you can do is find the manual and the customer service number. Usually if you give them a call, let them know what’s up, the sometimes replace the parts for free. :) Give it a try!
