Wrist pain from typing too much, what's the best way to relieve it?

Earlier today, I got an exploding, sharp pain in my right wrist, my guess is from typing too much. I’m on the computer all day at work, and then I chat with friends in the evening online over IM (I’m also on here a lot). However, today I got this horrible pain in my wrist & arm. What’s the best way to deal with this wrist pain?

Answer #1

take a short break

Answer #2

Try to get different mice and keywboards. The good ‘ol ball mice tend to give less problems to your wrist.

Go into any computer store and try out the keywords to find the one that’s most comfortable, then buy it. Spend some money. You’re going to be using computers for the rest of your life!

Answer #3

Find out what is comfortable for you. I find the most comfortable thing for me is for my keyboard to be low or on my lap. Installing a keyboard drawer on my desk greatly reduced my repetitive stress pain.

When I’m not typing sometimes I use a gel squeeze ball. That seems to help as well.

Answer #4

Adjust your keyboard to something more comfortable. Then, you can roll your wrists in a circular motion. Or put some ice on it.
