Why is it that we must know over 80,000 words by college?

Its crazy I’ve learned about 50,00 words so far and more but honestly why is it that we must know 80,000 words (asked by my bestfriend jasmine she wont listen to me maybe you guys can seal the deal for me heehe)

I have no clue but since 2000 more and more us school paid more attention 2 to english grammer and vocab ny students did a lot better in tests since they done that I guess schools needed that ai lol

I live in new york and my teachers are actual college professors they say I MUst know at least 80,000 WORDS OR BETTER and YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS BUT I BELIEVE YOU KNOW IN TOTAL OVER 40,000 OR BETTER DEPENDIND ON HOW WELL YOU ARE EDUCATED AND OR HOW WELL YOUR INTELLECT IS. PLAINLY ID LIKE TO KNOW WHY IS THATT IF YOU DONT KNOW THANKS STILL K ^_^

I have never heard of anything like that required by any university. It’s definitely NOT common…are you sure it’s legitimate?

Uhmmm I have no clue what you are talking about tbh. Maybe it’s where I’ve lived. But there’s never a must know for an amount of words… =S

that 4 sure put a lot of C and D grade school up to A and B grade schools lol
