Why are their norms to following god?

Why do you have to do certain things so god can accept you? I’m not sure but organized religion doesn’t seem right. Why can’t you just believe in god? I don’t mean to offend anyone but I just want to know why do you have to do certain things. I thought believing in god is enough? Can someone help me understand this?

Answer #1

I also do not like the organized religions they have all something or other which is repellent or I do not agree with. At least the way people sees it the divinity (God) wants people to be good so we should be good if we believe in Him. But the religious people are going to tell us exactly what they claim is being good.

Answer #2

it depends on your religion. as a christian simply beleiving is just about enough but they like you to attend church and sit down for a quite time with God sometimes. also, just try to be the best kid you can so that the people around you know you’re serious about God.

Answer #3

Why would you even have to believe in a god?

Behavior like that is commonplace among mythical entities of course. It’s known as Santa syndrome. For fictional beings that people promote as being real, belief in the being eventually becomes the most important aspect of it.

To answer your question to the point I would say this. In Christianity you don’t have to do anything to be accepted by God. You only need to Believe in Jesus Christ. There are some corrupted sects in Christianity that claims that we have to do certain things to be accepted by God but that is not true. So what you are saying is actually true - believing in God is all that is required.

But once God accepts us there are certain rules that we need to follow. Let me give you a crude example. Please remember the analogy is not a perfect one. Its like you want to join an organization. The proprietor of that place is very gracious and says you don’t have to to anything to get a job there. But once you are in there you have to follow the rules there and of course you have a job to do.

Answer #5

God loves us just the way we are; but that doesn’t mean he wants to leave us that way. He does love you no matter what, but he makes rules for our own good. When him commandments are broken it just causes hurt for us. You can’t be saved just be believing in God. For Pete’s sake, the Devil believes in God!! But he hates and fears him. As long as you try, he will always accept you back when you make mistakes, but that doesn’t mean you can go break a bunch of rules knowing he will let you back in. God loves you just the way you are; but that doesn’t mean he wants to leave you that way.

well, im a christian and I think that people percieve religion to be more restricted than it actually is!! for us its believening god, believing that jesus died for our sins and loving your family, friends and just trying to be a good person and accepting that we are all sinners!! god will always forgive you if you just ask him to. some religions are more strict than others but I go to a pretty good church that doesnt judge you and some of my most amazing friends go to the church… christianity isnt about rules rules and more rules, thats just what people have turned it into, something political but its NOT about that. and thats just from a christian point of view I don’t know about like other religions

Answer #7

This is my personal opinion, but I think, that organised religion is just to somewhat keep society in line. I’m not really a part of any religion because I know that if I slip once that I’m “going to hell” which I also don’t believe in. God loves you because that’s who he is, not because of what you have and haven’t done. And a loving God would never send his children into an eternal lake of misery and sorrow. Believing in him, is enough. I hope this helped!

Answer #8

I was baptised orthodox and raised catholic. I believe in God but personally I dont believe in the divsion of religion so really I’m nothing. My friends and parents think its stupid but its who I am. From what I’ve learned over the years, a major sin is not going to church every sunday which is stupid. Your not going to hell for not going to a man made building everyweek. I think if you were to praise suomthing it should be like things in nature. And I dont beleive in sacrifices and stuff like that, cause God does not want us to suffer. ya jesus sacrificed for us so to say, but he died doing so, and why would he want us to die again because of the fault of selfish other people. Thats just my opinon though. I wont jugdje what others beleive.

Answer #9

Well, all I know is I am God’s child no matter what I do God loves me and accepts me; His love is unconditional and it endures far past our shortcommings. It’s not about religious practice, formulas, or reguations, its about having a love for Jesus and living the best life you, using His Word as your guide.

What a splendid feeling to wake up on a Sunday afternoon and answer a religious question, I have made up for not going to Church today. Thank you Hysterical, you have saved my ‘bacon’ . ;)

Ok, all cheekiness aside, I’m sure there are norms a Christian has to follow and some do try their hardest to stick to these. For myself, I’m the worst ‘norm’ breaker ever, don’t go to Church anymore, have premarital sex, drink, swear and watch naughty movies every now and then, but I know God loves and accepts me regardless and I certainly love Him. :)

I say, ‘bravo’ to the Christians who do follow the strict guidelines, it’s very difficult in this day and age so ‘hats’ off to them. ;) But, I’m sure they aren’t gonna get their tickets to the Pearly Gates before me, because I’m just as worthy in God’s eyes, warts and all, The Lord accepts little ME.
