Ask around to your friends and family. Lots of people have wedding dresses saved and don’t know what to do with them. If they are boxed up and heirloomed, make sure you look at a wedding picture with the dress because you don’t want them to open the box if you aren’t going to like the dress. They’ll have to get the box resealed if you do that.

How good are your sewing skills? I’m about to start sewing my wedding dress, and it’s along the same lines as what you’re describing (strapless, A line) and it’s a really simple pattern. I’ve used this pattern before on formal dresses and I’ve managed to cut out the pattern and get it stitched up in a little under 4 hours. If you did this, you could go for just plain fabric for the dress, and then find a nice bridal iron-on transfer, or some iron on diamantes to do detailing with. If you’re really feeling creative, you can sew some beads onto the gown.
