When: At what point during labor do you go to the hospital?

Hey yall. Well, I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. I was curious: at what point during labor do you go to the hospital? I know labor can be a long period of time and you don’t really want to go lay in a hospital bed all that time? So, when do you need to go to the hospital?

Answer #1

Not matter what is going on, when your water breaks..you go. Once that happens you are open to infection.

But otherwise, waiting as long as possible is good. 5 minutes apart for the contractions is good. Although it really depends on if you are going to use drugs.

I cant really give you personal experience on this one as I was in the hospital at 33 weeks having my son. I had severe pre-eclampsia and had to be induced.

Did you take any birthing classes like Lamaze? If not, check into it.

Answer #2

No, you don’t go as soon as it starts - you’re liable to be sent home to wait it out.

It really depends on how long it takes you to get to the hospital. If you can get there within 10 minutes, then you can wait right up until your contractions are 5 minutes apart, but if it’ll take you closer to 45 minutes or more, then I’d suggest going when contractions are about 10 - 15 minutes apart, or as soon as your water breaks.

Answer #3

When contractions are about 5 mins apart. Otherwise they send you home. If you water brekas go immediately as they have 24 hours to get the baby out to reduce the chance of infection.

Answer #4

you should go as soon as it starts
