How to be a poet and make a living?

well I really like writing poetry, and writing in general. it has always intrested me and I guess im ok at it. im definatly not going into science or math in college because I fail at those, but different levels of english dont intrest me. like im a bad reader and vocabulary arent my thing. so I dont know what to do. my friend told me to just be a poet but how do I do that and still make a living?

well my first thought is always be an english teacher, and write on the side. but if your not interested in english, you really can pick anything that you know will leave you time for writing, it doesnt have to have anything to do with writing cause you can write on your own time. but theres always journalism, or maybe pick something that will put you in places and situations that will inspire your writing. for example if seeing different people inspire you and your writing, maybe you could go into nursing or something else that will have you seeing different people everyday, etc. good luck!

im not so sure if being a poet is a lucrative thing to do (unless you become like a sensation). what my friend does is that she feeds her passion by writing/publishing but then she still works in an office to pay for bills.

you can probably take a creative writing course. I mean, to be good at poetry, you have to use a lot of imagery and play of words so vocabulary is needed. if you could read philosophy books, that’d be great too. so yeah. good luck. :)
