What should you expect from a 1 week old puppy ?

She was born 1 week ago, and had to be under oxygen for 30-40 minutes every hour. She is now weened from the oxygen and is feeding as needed.mom takes great care of her and she is doing fine . But I would like to know what to expect from her now to see if she is normal. (doing normal things). Dan

At a week old, the number one thing I’d do, is keep track of her weight gain, on a daily basis. As long as she’s gaining weight EVERY DAY, you can assume she is doing ok…(at one week it’s hard assess anything, except for strength)…You can get those little food scales at Walmart (these work great for the small breeds…pups who weigh only ounces)…I think they run between $15 and $20…

well if there are other puppies from the litter see how well she is keeping up. At one week it is going to be hard to tell how the puppy is developing. The puppy won’t be able to walk or see and her ears will still be closed. The best way to see whats going to happen is just to continue monitoring her and giving her time. It sounds like she will be fine now as long as her mom is watching out for her.
