What should I be expecting on my first trip to the gyno?

This coming Friday I am going to the gyno for the first time because I want to be put on birth control. (I am 18) They said that they will be giving me a pap smear..?… What should I be expecting with that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. =]

What do you mean by family history? and I’ve had quite a few sexual partners… its actually an embarassing number… does it really matter or do I need to be sure to tell them the honest number? and can they test for stds while I’m there? I feel like after having a crazy first semester of college- I should get checked… but thank you for what you’ve already told me =] I feel better about it already!

I think its important if you tell them the amount of sexual partners you have had and how many of them it was unprotected sex… don’t be ambarresd the gyno lady don’t know u ..lol you can get testd for what ever you want once your in there make sure you let them know before you start

They are first going to ask you about your family history, when your first period was, how many sexual partners you’ve had…then they will have you undress(they will leave the room) and the doc will give you a breast exam, then he will put this plastic, duck bill looking thing inside you and open it. He will then swab your insides, and take the duck bill out. Then he will put 2 fingers in you and press on your stomach…it sucks but it will be over quick

I think you should be honest they are used to it what you tell them is confidential. family history I would imagine is about the health of your family ie parents. dont be worrying , good luck. toni
