How true is it that all snakes give off a deadly spray?

When I find ringnecks and other garden snakes I like to pick them up and play with them. I know they’re not poisoness. Someone at my church said that ALL snakes let off a deadly spray, and when you handle them it can give you a fatel disease. I don’t believe it. Is it true?

Certainly not in North America. There is, however, at least one species of spitting snake in asia, but unless it hits the eyes, it doesn’t do any harm.

Most snakes produce a strong-smelling musk when handled, and you should always wash your hands and forearms after handling a snake and before you touch your face.

No this is not true. Its a lie told to kids so they don’t pick-up snakes. Its a way to make kids fear all snakes so they don’t accidentally pick up the wrong snake and get bit.
