What does :42: mean? I don't get it!?

The :42: is from a book. It’s ‘The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy’ by Douglas Adams.

In that book, people build a giant mega-computer and ask for the Answer to ‘life universe and everything’. The computer works several millions of years and then spits out ‘42’. Of course, people can’t use that answer. So they ask the computer for the original question. The computer replies that the original question is unknown and has yet to be calculated. So people had to build a new, even larger mega-computer in order to find the concrete question for that answer.

Some nerdy people think it’s funny to answer every question they get ‘42’. Tell him you’ll send a piece of ‘vogon poetry’ if he ever does that again. See what happens.
