Do you think Huck Finn should be taught in schools? Why or why not? People think it shouldn't be taught in schools because the and word is used more than 200 times in the novel. We had a discussion in class about this... what you you think? Why or why not?
Yes, look at the discussion already happening. If it allows dialoge between people in regards to there thoughts on the inpact of the N word on those in the past, present and future, it should be used as a good learning tool for schools. Anyway that word is in half the songs on the radio and tv. Why not teach where it comes from and how it was used in the past and the affect it had on those under it, then maybe some of the youth of today will stop using it as a greeting or slang word!
Absolutely it should be taught. The vocabulary that is in the book was common at the time that the book was written, and can be used to illustrate the kinds of characters in the book. Avoiding a novel because it happens to use one word that a group of people find objectionable currently is very small-minded.
I think it should be taught in High School. By that age they most likely already know the 'N' word and they should know that it used to be a common word to say but in modern day it is very offensive.
After people know that they should be able to read it for the great piece of literature that it is.
its an old book and its a classic and despite the bad language it does have good morals that can be learned from reading it.
