The hormonal pills are all 99.9% effective. Every woman can experience different side effects than the next woman, so you have to work with your doctor if there are unwelcome side effects. Low estrogen pills - the ‘low dose’ pills - are less likely to give weight gain and irritability, but are more likely to result in a burning sensation during intercourse. Changing to a different pill or using estrogen cream can give relief. Another side effect - although I do not know which might do this - is the loss of a sex drive. Suddenly the whole idea of sex just seems pointless. Again changing pills can bring back your drive.

It is confusing because the pill that your best friend finds perfect and grows her boobs (that does sometimes happen), may be the one that makes you lose interest in sex. So work with your doctor.

There are also IUDs which are inserted by a doctor and remain effective for 5-10 years. Also, there are rings, patches, and shots. Possibly a good thing to do is talk to a health care professional. If you do not have anyone to go to, I would suggest going to Planned Parenthood and talk to a nurse about your options.

Good Luck!!

All birth control pills are equal in preventing pregnancy as long as you take them according to the directions.

Negative side effects are caused by your body reacting to the higher hormonal levels so everyone reacts differently.

However, most pills do make you retain water weight slightly and most actually clear acne, not cause it. Since the weight gain is only water weight its not very apparent and its usually a very small amount of weight like 2 pounds. Depending on your lifestyle you may want only 4 periods a year in which there are certain birth controls for that or there are some that give you your period once a month and the longer you take the pill the shorter and less heavy your period becomes.

Also if you don’t want to take a pill everyday or have a hard time remembering there are patches, shots and vaginal inserts like neuva ring.

If you want to go on the pill its only really a matter of how many periods you want a year and how much you want to pay. Some brands at wal mart run 9 dollars a month while others can be up to 40, they all work to prevent pregnancy the same but are just different brand prices.

The best option is talking to your doctor about what form of contraception would be best for your lifestyle, gynos are very knowledgeable about numerous types of birth control so make an appointment!

All pills are different and are tailored towards different individuals so side effects for certain women would be different for another. Talk to your doctor they can advise you. If you are looking for ones that cure acne, reduce pms then tell him. Most won’t do both.

I use nuvaring and I love it. You just keep it in for 3 weeks and take it out for a week to get your period. Don’t have to worry about forgetting to take the pill and all that
