Are american bulldogs the same as pittbulls?

no they arent the pitbull (in my opinioon) is more better around kids then around other dogs and bull dogs are opisite . .. like they are totaly diff.

No American Bulldogs and Pitbulls are not the same dog at all. As editor said, Pits are more related to Staffies…

Mikeh is correct, they simply look very much alike, and if you wanted to get one that looked very similar, definitely get a Scottish breed of the American Bulldog.

thanks :), because pittbulls are elegal in england and I was gunna ask my mum for a american bulldog, if you have any advice to make her and my step dad say yes then that would help as they always say now :/

No, they are different breeds. The Scott type of American bulldog does resemble a pit bull, but they are unrelated (in as much as one breed of dog can be unrelated to another).

American Bulldogs are classed by the AKC as a guard dog, while a pit bull is a terrier.

No American Bull Dogs are not the same as Pit Bulls. I had 1 American Bull and 3 Pit Bulls at one time. The American Bull is much larger. Mine was 150 lbs. Where my Pits are from 45 to 55 lbs. And the American Bull was very protective of my children and myself. He was also very clumsy. But he was a very awesome dog. One time my husband and I were playing around and he thought my husband was hurting me and he bit my husband on the lip. Nothing real bad. R.I.P Gergy…He had a brain tumor.

Pitbulls have a similar “real” name: American Staffordshire Terrier – and they look similar, but that’s about it.
