Why do I have a weird protruding tummy?

I’m 14, and of Afro-Carribean/Indian descent. I’m one of those people who have a steady weight that practically never changes - 110lbs, and I am about 5’2 or 5’3. The rest of my body looks great, normal, very toned and slim, because I dance 2hrs every Monday and Wednesday.

However, my stomach is really weird. I have a really round, protruding belly, and this huge amount of abdominal fat on my stomach, despite dancing and having an otherwise normal body. I used to eat really big portions, which I cut down on gradually for the past year or so, and a lot - to a normal amount - in the past few months. I even tried a diet with only a few tiny portions, and my stomach got smaller, but the fat stayed. But I’ve noticed that every time I eat, my stomach literally grows bigger. It’s really weird because the fat doesn’t hang off my stomach - my stomach is round and solid; only when I sit are there rolls, and they stick really far out. My stomach actually adds about two inches to my waistline, and it really freaks me out, because I eat pretty healthy, with normal portions, and I dance.

Since I have a lot of responsibilities, I thought that it might have something to do with stress, but I have no idea. I’ve been trying to figure this out for two years now. Can someone help me?

You might be eating healthy portions of the wrong stuff. Try to cut out as much fat as possible from your diet and try some crunches. If that doesn’t help then you might have to see your doctor as abdominal fat fat can have negative influences on your health. Your posture might also be a problem but I doubt that since you are in to dancing.

From what you’ve said, stress seems like a likely cause. Having a lot of stress in your life can cause changes that would otherwise be considered “abnormal”. Anyway, you might want to try taking some time for yourself to do things that relax you or make you happy (other than dancing). If you manage to get in some time for yourself at least twice a week, you’ll probably be less stressed out. I hope this helped!
