Washin newborn kittens... ???

My cat had 6 kittens yeaterday… They are now discovering how to “go” & now all 6 kittens are covered in their own waste… The mom has yet to clean it off. Can I help them? Can I bathe them? If so with what?

Answer #1

well only use a warm rag, because they can die of hypothermia if they get too wet, and the mom should clean then, you need to keep an eye on the mom to make sure she hasn’t rejected the kittens, sometimes animals reject their young and don’t care for them for reasons like humans have been touching them too much, keep an eye on the mother

Answer #2

Just take a warm, damp cloth and wipe them down…you don’t want to get them too wet, because they’ll get cold.

Answer #3

Just leave them she will do it eventualy. Other wize you could make the mom not want them any more. Just give her time…she will do it…

Answer #4

~Other wize you could make the mom not want them any more~

That’s so not true.

Not to mention, 1 day old kittens don’t release waste on their own - the mother needs to stimulate them, so if they’re covered in it, it’s because the mother left them that way and they do need to be cleaned.

Answer #5

If they are covered in waste they are fine. The mother has to lick their privates for them to go to the bathroom at all. Cats are naturally clean animals so she will clean them off in time DO NOT wipe them with anything wet, kittens that young can die from so much as a shiver of cold and need to be kept warm. Leave them be and don’t handle them too much because they could be injured easily.
