How can I get past an Unmountable Boot Volume Error?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and got it approximately a year and a half ago. A few weeks ago I got the “blue screen of death” with an unmountable boot volume error. I used to get it every once and a while before and could usually get past it if I restarted a few times, however, I can not get past it no matter what anymore. Unfortunately, I have no Windows XP disk. How would I go about fixing my poor laptop?

This is almost certainly a problem with your hard disk. I probably needs replacing I’m afraid.
