is it true you can take a certain amount of money when you travel overseas?

so my dad told me to open a bank account because when i get on the airplane they only tell me i can have a thousand or a little more???

For the most part - yes, that’s true. While there’s no limit to how much money you take with you when you leave, most countries have a monetary limit for bringing cash through their own borders.

Cash is also the most unsafe way to manage money while travelling. Look into using debit or credit cards that can be cancelled quickly if they are lost or stolen, or exchange currency into traveller’s cheques that are insured if anything goes wrong. It’s really difficult to make it through life without the use of a bank account, and if you run into monetary trouble while away, you’ll have no options if you don’t have a bank account. Listen to your dad and open that account … it could save you.
