What are some tips for someone who wants take art in college?

I start college next year and we get to choose 3 subjects. I was thinking of taking art. We visited the college today and i asked as much questions and they seemed pretty convincing. I’ve always wanted to take art in school but my mum and brother always said that there is no point in studying it.

Now that i’m older and i’m actually thinking of making a career out of it, (it’s either art or geography, which i am and will be studying also). My mother also asked me, if i took art, what jobs would be related to it? And i’m really worried about making the decision of what subjects to take. I’ve always loved art, but i don’t know if i only love it as a hobby. Will i still love it as a subject AND as a career? Can anyone help? I asked counselors in my school but they aren’t much help. I’m really crap at drawing still life and people, and all the technical things. I do what i think feels good, which is usually weird objects, abstracts, words, etc. I know i’m pretty good, but i don’t know if i’m good ENOUGH.

It’s best if you already have a qualification in it from High School/ Secondary. If you’ve got one of them you got a better chance of getting the place you want.

practice drawing hun.if i told u to draw me a fairy eating an apple siting on a bench by the water,under the sun set, could u do it,and it look good? if so youre moving on mpretty good :)

Well the reason anybody goes to college is to get BETTER anyway!! Think about it, its either art or geography for you, you say you don’t think you are very good at art… well you aren’t very good at geography either! You will still have much to learn on both subjects, so don’t pick the easy option ,go for the one you love most. If you don’t enjoy sketching, as such, but enjoy drawing words and abstract objects, you should look into graphic design. Designing fonts and landscapes etc. Hey! You could combine art and basic geography and do landscape design!!!! That would be perfect!
