How do I keep from thinking about cutting myself?

Answer #1

I know the feeling of this…For me when I feel the need to ‘bite’ myself, I do and it relieves me from being depressed/stressed, etc. Try taking in a deep breath and staring at the wall, erasing your mind and concentrating on something you want to do, or something you like and/or try reading a few pages in a book, to gather your mind elsewhere. Something needs to help you calm yourself and relax, to get that off your mind c; Hopefully this supports you here!

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.

ok, I’ve tried to add more, but as of now I can’t think of any more suggestions, just hope you figure out a way some how (:

I sorta know what you mean but I never really went to the point of cutting myself but just go watch a movie or better yet a video game. Books are great and I love to read but sometimes it makes your mind wander back to bad thoughts. TV can help but same thing your mind might wander back to bad thoughts. Video games absorbs you to have to press buttons and do things so your mind goes to activity mode thinking about what to do next.

You just make a choice not to think about cutting yourself, Anna. You have to realize that you are the center of your reality. You create whatever circumstances are happening in your life and whatever thoughts you think - they don’t just ‘happen’ to you.. You just choose not to let stupid thoughts enter into your reality and just don’t give em permission to start controlling you

Hey.. so i cut myself as well. What ive been suggested is to write down the name of the people i love on the place where i was going to cut. So i think about how i wouldnt want to hurt them. Its worked a few times. Or listen to some happy music? Or. Keep whatever you cut with in a different room, so your less tempted…

Thanks, that sounds like a great idea.

I used to think about cutting myself. I actually did, once, but it only went 2 cm because i was shaking so bad. I was hurt emotionally, and i thought if i were hurt physically it would make the pain in my heart go away. But i was afraid of hurting myself, because even though i hated a lot of things about me at that time, i still cared about myself. Are you going through a hard time? Talk to someone you can really trust: a best friend, a trusted parent/guardian, maybe even your dog or the tree in the back yard. Speak your thoughts, because that always sorts things even if nobody is listening. Otherwise, deal with everything that’s going on, on a piece of paper. Write down all your feelings and thoughts on the sheet. Also, understand why you are feeling the need to cut yourself: Are you angry? Are you sad, disappointed? Feeling neglected? If so, all you need to do is TRY to do the opposite: what will make you feel happy, calm, or even just accepted. Stay strong, because there are people out there who love you and care for you.

Whenever I fall into that I usually just turn up my music loud (headphones, lol) & clean my room.

When I want to cut, I take a few rubber bands (usually five,) and I line them up on my arm, then I snap (not literally. you know, pull them back then let go.) one by one over and over again from top to bottom. It hurts as well, but you won’t get any scars. Your arm might swell up though, but it never lasts for more than an hour. :) But if you really don’t want to hurt yourself at all, go to sleep, or just sit in a corner and cry your eyes out while listening to music. Oh, and talk to someone about it. :) Find someone you trust and just rant. Or rant to a complete stranger on this site if you want to. :) I’m rantable, just so you know.

Find/Learn other ways to cope….

Answer #13

I’d advise talking to close friends, whenever you start feeling down or feel the urge to cut, listen to ‘happy’ music, and text someone you really trust. You should get over it, good luck!

I never have cut but I have a few friends that have. They used the butterfly project to try and stop. When you feel like you need to cut you get a marker, pen, sharpie, ect. And you draw a butterfly on your wrist. Name it after a loved one (if u feel the need to cut after u have drawn one your supposed to draw another butterfly everytime you feel that way!) if you cut while the butterflys are there then they all die. You need to butterflys to fade away don’t kill them. Don’t scrub them off either. They have to come off by themself. (one cut kills all the butterflys btw). Idk if it’ll help but it helped my friend. He named all of them after his gf. It’s been almost a year n he hasn’t killed one yet hopefully it works for you too. (:
