Tapping phones?

Ok, im writing a story and im wondering, do the police tap home phone lines of people who run away?

Answer #1

No, I dont think cauz I just got back from being a runaway as far as I know that havent taped our phones… Good I hope they havent!!! LOL I dont think they do stuff like that. good luck with your story

Answer #2

They only tap phone lines of people suspected of involvement with serious crimes. And the police must go to a judge BEFORE they tap a line and convince the judge that it is necessary. If the police knew where a runaway was, they wouldn’t tap a phone for that, they would just pick up the runaway. Phone tapping is more for drugs, organized crime, terrorism, and serious felonies.

Answer #3

only when they are on parole or if it is a federal suspicion.

Answer #4

dont think so I think only when drugs are involved

Answer #5

The police are well capable of tapping phone lines, but they need a warrant. To get a warrant you need to be suspected of breaking the law, and so the police need good cause to tap the line. They work with phone carriers/providers to tap the lines, so they don’t even need to be near the phone! But if someone is just running away that’s not really cause for a warrant :)

It tracks numbers dialed, received, texts sent and received and even shows the callers location on Google Maps!
