Tanned skin

Why do western people seem like prefer to have tanned skin? I always wondered why.we always want our skin fair…

Answer #1

Somewhere along the line, tan skin became associated with a certain amount of status. I suppose the thinking could be that if you have enough extra time and money to do nothing but lay perfectly still in the sun, you must be doing pretty well for yourself.

Not all Westerners prefer tanned skin, though. Personally, I’ve always been more attracted to very pale skin, and when people who tan reach 25-30, their wrinkles are positively hideous.

Answer #2

Like Mikeh said, not all Westerners prefer tan skin.

I personally, love pale skin. I think it’s more healthy looking, it’s more natural looking, and it’s more smooth and soft to the touch. When people tan too much, they end up looking orange, having wrinkles, getting skin cancer, and looking like a piece of leather.
