Can you sue a person who writes defamatory remarks to you on a social networking site?

Yes if they dont stop and you can print out the stuff. Also if its effecting your live majorly. Good luck and I hope it gets btr. and you need to know you have a good case so talk with a lawyer first.

Sweetie, can you be a bit more specific as to what was said in funmail so I can help you more thoroughly? (i am just speculating without knowing what was said to you & i dont like to speculate or assume things.) But here is my 2 cents.

From what I know, If it is was a life threatening then it is possible…but you need to check their site policy on what is covered by the terms of use of their site!(meaning what they are willing to get involved in & what is out of their hands.)

If the site doesnt have a close on verbal abuse then I dont think you can unless the person said anything racial, sexual, or offended any type of religion/religious slurs.
If they do and there is cause to prove that in fact according to the terms of use that they cover verbal abuse as well then you just may be able to sue…(then again it would be in small claims & take forever to be dealt with and then it wouldnt really do much again unless it was more offensive & life threatening which then would hv to be proven with out a shadow of a doubt…get the site involved, bring up the posts/logs proving your side vs theirs…and so on. Again, please understand that I am just speculating here…nothing concrete.

Yes i will do that, because it spoils my reputation of my social networking site. The other member of the site will think bad about the site. The promotion of the site also goes bad. so its good for the my site’s reputation to sue them and get compensation for that defamatory remarks about my site. Then only other new members will be satisfied about the site.
