Does soil sink faster in water than sand and soil mixed?

Answer #1

No The addition of sand will increase the rate of water drainage through soil. . This is normally achieved where desirable (e.g. in earth that contains a high proportion of clay) by the addition of “sharp sand” that is typically used in making concrete not the softer “builder’s sand” that is used in mixing mortar for building walls.
. Specially washed “horticultural grades” of sharp sand can be obtained to improve soil drainage in gardens and other areas where excess salt content would adversely affect the growth of plants. .
