Should we ban myspace links entirely?

A few people have expressed concern at not being able to use their myspace links in questions. So, because of a variety of reasons I outlined, we’re thinking of banning them entirely. Thoughts? Would this be a positive, negative, or no big deal?

Answer #1

yes I think you should ban myspace links

Answer #2

No big deal to me! I only keep my myspace for people I actually know in person and my family!

Answer #3

I say…goodbye to the myspace links! :)

Answer #4

I love myspace. I’m a right geek haha.

But if theres adult content, I say ban myspace links. I’d rather not end up on a site full of naked people etc lmao.

Answer #5

this site is so censored!

:) It’s all about what’s best for the community. Yep, we make decisions & compromises. And nope, we haven’t done anything yet.

However, it’s a very real issue for me when I get complaints in my inbox, and I can’t change what’s on myspace. BUT, I can help make it harder for people to attack this community via adult material on myspace.

Answer #6

Myspace is a candidate for banning because we’ve had complaints. The most recent one was a myspace profile that was filled with adult material.

And, we get at least 1-2 complaints, monthly…I like to cut down on those :)

We’d never consider banning links entirely, it’s what makes the web useful.

I’m fine with banning Myspace links, it’s dangerous since there are so many ways that people can get hacked from clicking on them. I don’t trust Myspace one bit.

As for banning external links entirely, I’m not so for it. Sometimes it helps to give people links in answers for more information.

Answer #8

I agree with ‘editor’ Banning MySpace links is a good idea. But not all links because some links are really helpful to people.

Answer #9

I would say ban myspace links, but I’m biased because I can’t stand myspace!

I think it’s a bad idea to advertise your myspace- I mean, I’d be inclined to give out that sort of info just to friends or people I know fairly well (ie: know that they’re not a predator). It seems like people want people to add them on myspace just for the sake of it- like collecting baseball cards, only with friends. But hey, that’s just mt opinion.

Answer #10

Myspace links go ahead and ban, if that is what you think you should do but not information links, that defeats the help you may be able to give someone on a question.

But why do you really want to ban them? Only because the links are limited? Or because the links take people away from this site?

But really I don’t care if they are banned.

Answer #11

I agree, I do see where that would be a problem. I hadn’t thought of it that way. But now that you mention it, the myspace profiles can be anything and you never know what that may be.

I say ban them. I would be upset if I linked to a myspace profile and it contained adult material too. If you have had compliants I agree with the banning.

Thank you for explaining more in depth.

A PERSON NEVER KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT ANYONE ACTUALLY . NO MATTER WHAT FOR SITE YOU GO TO UNLESS ITS YOUR FAMILY. SO WHOS TO SAY ITS DIFFERENT THAN ANY WHERE ELSE.. INCLUDING HERE..
