Should tampons and sanitary towels be free?

…There are financial assistance programs that are meant just for this type of thing.

In Pennsylvania you can get a “food stamp” card that has a certain amount of money on it for food and then a certain amount as cash for clothing and hygiene items.

I don’t think pads and tampons should be free - face it, it COSTS money to make them… so if they were free we’d be running somebody into the ground financially.

Those who can afford them should buy them and those who can’t should be on some type of government financial assistance program so that then they CAN afford them. (They also give hygiene products to women at shelters.)

If it concerns you and you can afford them, Why not put together some feminine hygiene product “baskets” for some women who are less fortunate and take it to a women and children’s shelter?

Dear geriann, Should toilet paper be free…it isn’t my idea that I should be pooping lol. No of course they shouldn’t be free…how about deoderant…not my choice to smell. Yes they should be. Like, what if someone cant afford them? My mom grew up in poor family because there were 7 kids, so they didn’t have money for pads/tampons. So my mom had to use toilet paper. I hate the thought of someone having to go through that. I think atleast pads should be free. SOMETHING atleast that could help the less forunate.

^ exactly. some people are so poor they can’t buy them. it’s basic hygiene that every girl has a right to. some things such as perscription…dentist treatment…opticians…are free or reduced when on benefits or a low income. so why not them.

No, they shouldn’t be free. That’s asinine. You don’t choose to have a period, but you can choose to not wear a tampon or pad.

What’s more–you NEED to eat, but food isn’t free. You NEED to wear clothing in the winter, but that’s not free.

Pads should be. Geriann: Bras should not be free. We don’t NEED them. It’s just better if we have them.
